China and US have the largest number of VC investments in blockchain startups, where crypto-exchanges and mining sectors were the most popular between 2003 and 2018. However, in 2017 the largest portion of investments went into cryptocurrency and it is not surprising as market experienced a crypto hype. In 2018 the popularity of cryptocurrencies decreased and investors preferred startups offering financial services and building marketplaces.
